The Trauma Resiliency Model (TRM)(I am a certified TRM Senior Trainer and clinician in this model) developed by Elaine Miller-Karas is a body-centered approach which is a type of somatic therapy based off of cutting edge neuroscience of the brain. With TRM we explore the biology of fear and threat and the automatic, natural defensive responses that occur when faced with a life-threatening and/or dangerous situation. Most importantly, this model explores the concept of resiliency and how to restore balance to the body and the mind after traumatic experiences. When the focus is on normal biological responses to extraordinary events, there is a paradigm shift to symptoms being described as biological rather than as pathological or as mental weakness.  As traumatic stress symptoms are normalized, feelings of shame and self-blame are reduced or eliminated. Symptoms are viewed as the body’s attempt to re-establish balance to the nervous system.

TRM uses nine skills to teach clients nervous system regulation. The first 6 skills can be used by the client outside of the therapy room. The last three skills are used for trauma reprocessing guided by the therapist. TRM therapists gently titrate from traumatic memories or feeling states back to a more grounded resource place processing small parts of the trauma in order not to retraumatize the patient. Through the release of this stuck energy clients then can come back to a more regulated state.

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) Cognitive Behavioral Therapy is a psycho-social intervention that aims to improve mental health. CBT focuses on challenging and changing unhelpful cognitive distortions and behaviors, improving emotional regulation, and the development of personal coping strategies that target solving current problems.

Solution Focused Psychotherapy (SFBT) Solution-focused therapy is a goal-directed collaborative approach to psychotherapeutic change that is conducted through direct observation of clients' responses to a series of precisely constructed questions

Positive Psychology  is the scientific study of the strengths that enable individuals and communities to thrive.
